Making "soup"

I was in the living room of the apartment and I could hear some clinking around. I snuck up to find Dominik stirring cards in a pan. He would then switch the cards to another pan and stir them in there. He's just too cute!

Christmas week!

Well this picture was taken a couple weeks ago at our local grocery store. Who knew you didn't have to fight the crowded malls to see Santa?

We are hosting Christmas this year, and its the first time we will be with family on Christmas since 2006! Ben, Carley, Mullen, and Logan will be arriving Thursday evening. It will be a jam packed weekend of playing outside during the day, and playing board games at night! We can't wait!

Quick update on our busy lives!

We celebrated Thanksgiving in Albuquerque with Bruce's brother Ben, his wife Carley and their kids, Mullen and Logan. Dominik had a blast playing with his cousins. We are so excited that they are within driving distance (6.5 hrs)!

Now forgive me in advance for no posts the next couple of weeks. Here is our schedule starting with this past Monday-Dentist for me, blood work for Dom. Thursday-Dom's tear duct surgery. Saturday-family and 1 year pictures, and Christmas at the ballpark, Wednesday-mom and dad visit, Friday-Ben, Mullen, and Logan visit, Saturday Dominik's birthday, Sunday-Ben and the kids leave, Monday-mom and dad leave. And somewhere in between I have to make a cake, get ready for the party and decorate for Christmas.

I'm gonna need a vacation.

I'm 11 months today!

Can't believe how fast 11 months has gone! We had an eventful day planned, but only got around to half. We are in Yuma right now and they had a Veteran's Day Parade, so I thought that would be fun. It was supposed to start at 8:45 am, but didn't get going until 9:15 am. I was getting worried as that is close to nap time. We saw lots of army equipment, Marines, Shriners, Bands, Girl and Boy Scout Troops, and other random groups that made floats. We stayed until 10:15 am, as Dominik couldn't make it any longer. I'm not sure how much more parade there was, but it seemed pretty rocking still as we got to the car. Oh and there was WIND. Today was super windy, so there was plenty of dirt flying through the air, getting us all gritty. Which leads us to why we cancelled our afternoon 11 month photo shoot in the park. Hopefully tomorrow is less windy!

Some of Dominik's current activities: opening and climbing INTO cupboards, walking everywhere, eating all finger foods at meals, nap time/bedtime without the pacifier, making noises with his tongue, getting one tooth on top (we have a total of 3 now!), playing/initiating the game of peekaboo, and running away from diaper changes.

Top 10 Tuesday

So I say this every time, but I'm honestly going to try and get better at doing the Top 10. Haha yeah right.

For today's reading pleasure, My Top 10 OPI nail polish colors. I am slightly obsessed and can't ever pass up the buy 2 get 1 free sale at Ulta. It makes me sick knowing how much I've spent on nail polish (I have atleast 10 more, not listed). And at $7 a bottle, I have a couple weeks worth of groceries! Without further adieu, here they are (from left to right in the picture):

1. Ate Berries in the Canaries
2. Jade is the New Black
3. Lincoln Park at Midnight
4. Dress to Empress
5. D.C. Cherry Blossom
6. Jewel of India
7. Purple with a Purpose
8. Midnight in Moscow
9. Tropical Punch
10. Peru-b-ruby

Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we ventured out to the pumpkin patch. Needless to say, a pumpkin patch in Arizona is completely different from Nebraska.
We arrived at Tolmachoff Farms in Glendale at approximately 12:45 pm. Well, we drove by it at 12:45 pm. We had to try and find a parking spot first. The place was jammed! Cars were parked on the street for miles, and they had a medium sized parking lot that was just a cluster to get into. Did I mention this place is in a neighborhood? We resorted to the parking lot, as we didn't want to park on the busy street. We did find a fairly sweet parking spot, after some idiot mom finally got the automatic hatch to close on the back of her Escalade. So we walk up to the entrance-HUGE line that is NOT moving. Fabulous. We finally got in, $12 later (with a coupon). Made our way to see some animals-roosters, horses, ostrich, etc. Kind of boring. We got our picture taken on some hay bales (how festive, huh?). Then we decided to try the corn maze. There were two. One was called a 'Family' maze and the other a 'Mini' maze. Logically we head over to the Family maze, since we are a family. The lady at the entrance says it takes 45 minutes. I wasn't sure how long Dom would last, so I asked how long the Mini maze was. 10 minutes. Sweet, just my style. Well the Mini maze, wasn't much of a maze, but just a path cut through a corn field. Oh well. Next, we were off to the "pumpkin patch". You know, the place where pumpkins are placed in the grass, pre-marked with prices? We didn't grab a pumpkin, but I got some cute pics. Check out Facebook for more. We then walked over to the kids play area. Dom walked too. He was wearing his Husker Squeaks shoes, we got so many comments on them, and people wanted to know where we got them! After that we headed back to the car, making sure to avoid the "gift shop" area jammed with people paying for pumpkins. The line to get in when we left was nearly three times the size of the line we waited in. Boy was I glad we got there when we did!
We had fun, and it was a memory, but it's just not like the pumpkin patch in Nebraska.

I'm getting a backyard!!

After being extremely patient for nearly 3 and a half years, I will finally have a backyard by November! As you know Bruce was home last week to get his wisdom teeth out, so we were able to meet with 3 different landscapers on Friday. We decided on one and they will start work this Friday! I'm so excited! We will have a large Sisso tree, a lime tree, and a tangerine tree. We will also have a bunch of plants/bushes including hibiscus, lantana, and a birds of paradise. Pictures will follow after its complete.

Dominik is 10 months! (Yesterday)

My baby is 10 months old. Double digits. 2 hands. So much has been going on lately! He is starting to say mom mom and dad dad clearer. And directing the correct term at either Bruce or I. The last week or so, we have worked on walking. We have him walk between Bruce and I and he can take up to 8 steps until he gets too excited or face plants into the ground because his feet weren't moving but his upper body was. Its really funny. We have caught him a couple of time pulling up on the table or wall and very wearily letting go and taking a couple steps. This is such a fun process to watch! Dominik has also started waving "hi". Well, its more of just moving his arm around, but he does it when people say "hi". Its cute.

Onto other news--we are headed back to Phoenix tonight because Bruce is having oral surgery to get his wisdom teeth removed. OUCH! Not looking forward to the next couple of days, as I will be taking care of 2 babies. Haha. I've been extra nice to Bruce lately and have made him whatever his heart desires to eat since he won't be able to eat certain food for a while!

Husker Power!

So every Thursday morning we have Babytime at the library. Today is also Game Day for NU vs KSU. So, duh, Dom is decked out in Husker gear-shirt and shoes. So we get to the library, go to the kids room and sit down. The instructor, Miss Sylvia, comments on Dominik's outift. I replied, "it's game day. ". Then a grandmother who brought her grandson pipes up "are you from NE? My husband and son are getting off early to watch the game today. ". So come to find out, she is from Minden. Small World. But wait, it gets smaller. About 5 minutes later, another mom and son walk in and she comments on Dom's shirt. She's from Red Cloud! Seriously, 3 out of 7 parents there are from Nebraska!

Just a little proof that Huskers are taking over.

GBR.

Dominik 9 month update!

So he turned 9 months 2 weeks ago but didn't have his 9 month Dr. Appt until yesterday due to our doctor being gone, and then we were in Nebraska last week.

Dominik did really good for the doctor. He is always such a show off and the doctor is able to complete most of the tests while he is standing (his favorite thing to do!). She even gave him tongue depressors to gnaw on to keep him occupied. He showed off all his skills-talking, crawling, standing, eye contact, and walking while holding my hand (which apparently is a 12 month skill, so yay for my over achiever). Items she wants us to work on is more words than just momma and dada, and walking.

He also got one shot this time. He cried a bit but was cool as soon as I picked him up and gave him a hug!

Dominik's 9 month stats: 22 lbs 6 oz. 29 1/2 inches

Potato Patato

Why are frozen french fries so delish? Or are my siblings and I just strange for liking them? When we were young we always snatched a frozen fry off the cookie sheet before mom baked them. So last night when I was preparing the fries for the oven, I naturally popped one, or two (ok, three) into my mouth before the preheating beep went off. As I stand there munching a fry, Dominik is looking up at me, yearning to know what that thing tastes like. So lo and behold, his first frozen fry. Nice and cold, but also turns to nice and mushy. Both good for baby :)

New activity!

Well as some of you know, we've temporarily relocated to Yuma, AZ for Bruce's job. We've been down here for 3 days now and I've found something for Dominik and I to do once a week! The library has a Baby Time where we sing songs, read books, and play. We went today and it was great! There were 6 other kids. It was just nice to get out of the apartment. Yes apartment. Its really sad that we are back in apartment life. Oh well. I also drove around and found a park, the Post Office and a Fry's grocery store. Woo! Very excited about the Fry's because near us is Walmart (whose produce is nasty) and an Allbertson's (which is just expensive). So a Fry's is a fabulous find!

We also went swimming yesterday. It was fun. The water was cold but better cold than warm when its hot out!

We are staying here this weekend so hopefully we go explore some more!

Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Reason's I like living in AZ:
10. I can wear shorts all year.
9. I can go barefoot all year round, but am more careful since I stepped on a scorpion.
8. My flowers are always in bloom.
7. It takes 5 hours to get to lots of fun places-the beach, LA, Vegas, Albuquerque, Mexico.
6. People actually want to come visit.
5. No snow!
4. Its sunny 360 days a year (and did I mention no snow? Haha)
3. We can see mountains (ok, not huge ones, but still) from our house. Definitely different than NE!
2. I've only turned on the heat once in almost 4 years.
1. All of the Nebraska people that live here! We definitely throw the best Husker Parties!

We have an artist!

So I've been trying to think of new things for Dominik and I to do during the day. So I decided to buy some art supplies. I purchased a huge pad of paper, some marker things that look like Weebles (Weebles wobble but they don't fall down) for easy grip, and some finger paints. Now given that Dominik is a genius, I bypassed the age suggestions-paper and paints 3 yrs+, and weeble-like markers 18mo +. I've found he doesn't really "get" the markers, wants to tear up the paper, and doesn't know what to do about the finger paint. Well this morning, it was raining, and we were bored, so out came the art supplies. The picture is the first attempt with finger paints. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Also note, the paper is ripped because Dominik thought it would "add" something to the painting. Quite the Picasso!

So in the past week I've had dinner with 2 of my good college friends TWICE! Who would think that 4 years after graduation our paths would cross again in Phoenix?! Rani, Bethany, and I all graduated together from UNO in Exercise Science. We had one more comrade, TJ, but he lives in KC. Anyways, Rani lives here now and Bethany was down doing her clinical in OT. It was great to catch up on everything, plus have some girl time. I'm very fortunate to have met these girls and have such a bond with them! AND it keeps me occupied when Bruce is working :)

Highchair, FINALLY!

So we've been holding out on buying a highchair because we've been using the Bumbo and tray when it was mealtime. Well today was the day Dom outgrew the Bumbo. He started arching out of it and pressing his feet on the ground to turn it. So bye bye Bumbo, hello highchair! He loves it, especially the two toys that are attached to the tray and bonus for mom, they flop down to the side when its time to eat! if you know me I always make sure we get a deal on things, so I (naturally) had a coupon for 20% off any item at Babies R Us. AND the highchair was on clearance! Go me! We also picked up an umbrella stroller that is brown and with green trim (very cute!) It will come in handy for airport travel since he is getting to be too big for his carrier. Well no more buying for me for a while, plus Bruce absolutely despises Babies R Us. I just can't help it, its all too darn cute!

Top Ten Tuesday

My friend Diane, and fellow blogger, has done this before and since I consciously knew it was Tuesday, figured I might as well give it a whirl. I will try and do this every Tuesday with a new Top Ten list. Here we go!
Top Ten Reasons I Enjoy Being a Stay At Home Mom
10. I can wear "comfy" clothes all day everyday and no one cares. I do feel the need to put on "regular" (i.e. Not work out clothes) a couple days a week, but other than that, I now choose comfort over cute.
9. Zero Commute. Unless you count the 20 steps from my bed to Dominik's crib, I'd say that's a whole heck of a lot better than driving up to 1 hour each way to work.
8. Running Errands. I can run errands whenever I feel like it. Plus I can get them taken care of during the day so we have more time to spend with Daddy when he gets home from work.
7. Sleeping. Not gonna lie, a morning, afternoon, or both nap is fabulouso.
6. Cooking/Baking. I feel I have more time now to experiment with new recipes. I can start meals that take a couple hours and have them ready by 6 pm instead of 8 pm.
5. Cleaning. If you ask Bruce, this is my obsession. I need to have things in order, dust free, and smelling good. Laundry is always getting washed, floors vaccuumed, and bathrooms cleaned. I can easily get a couple things done while Dom is napping and that calms me. Haha
4. Snuggling. Yep. I get to do that, ALL. OF. THE. TIME.
3. Being in charge. So since I'm home, I've been in charge of everything-repairs, bills, meals. Not that I wasn't before, but now its my "job" and I take pride in it.
2. Meeting friends for lunch. This seems like a normal thing to do, but when you are at home, you sometimes miss adult conversation, so I enjoy my lunches with friends and Dominik. The only difference is, I get to go home after and they usually have to go back to work! :)
1. Watching Dominik grow first hand. It really is truly amazing to watch a child experience new things. I feel very fortunate that I won't miss most of it.

Don't you wish you were as flexible as Dominik?

I went to check on Dominik during his nap and this is how I found him sleeping. He looked pretty comfy, but I figured it wouldn't be a good position to wake up in, so I pulled his legs out and he didn't even peep.

Ok so I slacked on the last part of the trip

So sue me, we were having a lot of fun and the internet is not the best when you are driving up, down, and through multiple mountains. So I will give a quick run down of the rest of the trip:
Tuesday- got up, went swimming at Chico. Dom loved the warm water of the hot springs. Drove through Yellowstone. Saw 2 bears, ate a delicious lunch, played in Yellowstone Lake (just our feet), made it to Cody just in time for dinner!
Wednesday-Bruce, Mullen, Logan, Ben, and I went to the Buffalo Bill Cody museum. Dominik stayed home with Grandma
Thursday-went to the Buffalo Bill Shoot out downtown. Went to the Rodeo, met up with Bruce's friend Matt and the rest of his wedding party
Friday-went for a picnic and fishing. Played in the COLD river, watched Bruce and Ben jump off a bridge into the water, went to Matt and Jessica's rehearsal dinner
Saturday-Matt and Jessica's gorgeous wedding
Sunday-went picnicking, swimming, and shooting in the mountains with the whole family.
Monday-went to breakfast with the family before heading on our way to Moab. Drove through a nasty storm in UT (we later found out it was the remnants of a tornado! SCARY). Made it to Arches National Park at 6 pm. Still kind of stormy. Not really impressed with the park. Drove to Moab, every hotel think looks nice has no vacancy. Finally stop by this rustic place, Big Horn Lodge, we get the LAST room and it turns out to be the best hotel we stayed at throughout the trip!
Tuesday-get up head to Canyonland National Park. Pretty cool, but only went in 1 entrance, the other probably would have been cooler but we didn't want to back track an hour to get there! Made it back to home sweet home at 6 pm. Whew, I'm exhausted!

Lake Powell and the rest of Saturday

We were here on Saturday. We ate lunch in the truck overlooking the lake, near Glen Canyon Dam. It was pretty hot and I really wanted to go in the water, but time didn't permit.

Last night we stayed in Torrey, UT at a cute little motel called Austin's Chuckwagon Inn. It was a small room, but all we needed for the night. The town was really small, but had a great burger joint that satisfied our hunger after a loooong drive. It also sold beer, which actually determined where we were going to eat (remember we were in Utah!).

More to come later. Nothing but driving today. We'll be in Jackson tonight!

We departed slightly behind schedule this morning, but it ok. We pulled out of the driveway at 3:34am. The iPod is on shuffle-we have 11,657 songs and we are going to listen to it straight through. We are cruising along. It will be a long day as Dominik decided he didn't want to sleep last night. He was up at 11 pm, 12 am, 1:30am, and 2 am. Just a little fussy and nothing a pacifier couldn't handle. But it sure makes for a tired mom and dad.

First stop-Grand Canyon.

Who peed the bed?

This title is modified from one of my favorite episodes of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" called 'Who Pooped the Bed?'. In that episode, Frank and Charlie share a bed and there is a mysterious turd that appears, but it is inconclusive as to whose it is as all evidence points to bot of them. Trust me, its hilarious. Anyways, back to 'Who Peed the Bed?'. That would be Dominik. He doesn't share a bed and all evidence points to him. :). The past 4 nights he has peed the bed (and yes I have a diaper on him). 3 nights it has gone through everything-onesie, sleep sack, and sheet. And today it only got to the onesie and sleep sack. I honestly don't know what's going on, I'm not doing anything different with the diaper, but he is moving/rolling around a lot more so maybe that is the cause? Bruce even changed him around midnight thinking that the diaper was just getting too full and a clean one would help prevent the leakage. WRONG! I hope this doesn't last long as I am sick of doing laundry. Any advice on if this is normal or not would be greatly appreciated!

Visitors from Florida

We had a great visit with Great Grandpa and Brenda. We were lucky to have some unseasonably cool weather while they were here and we got to try out the new patio set. We had breakfast and dinner outside on Saturday, it was fantastic! Dominik was spoiled with so many hugs and kisses and toys, he just didn't know what to do with himself! In the picture he is testing out his new alphabet train. It teaches, letters, items that start with certain letters, and numbers. And most importantly, there is an OFF button. Haha. Its really cute and he seems to like it. We miss Grandpa and Brenda already and can't wait for them to come back!

Dominik also had his 6 month check up on Friday, he is 18 lbs, 15 oz (75th percentile) 28 inches (95th percentile) and 95th percentile for head size. He has a really long torso and is wearing 9-12 month clothes. Definitely growing like a weed! We have also started him on fruits. We have tried apples, bananas and avocados. So far the "naners" are his favorite. We have also done carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans and peas. Today we even tried out a sippy cup, but he didn't quite get it :)

That's all for now!

Busy body

Wow, Dom has sure progressed in the last couple of weeks! He is now rolling from tummy to back EVERY time we put him on his tummy. I think he thinks its a game. Dominik is also sitting up by himself. He still sometimes collapses to the side, but its nothing that a few pillows can't handle! We have also started vegetables this week. We have been doing cereal once a day for about a month. We started with carrots on Monday. My plan is to introduce a new vegetable each week with his dinner bottle. Up next on the menu will be peas, green beans, and sweet potatoes!

Dominik and I are also walking every morning before it gets too hot. But everyday it seems our walks get earlier and earlier before the 100 degree temperatures roll in! I want to continue this for as long as possible, but I know by the end of June/beginning of July the low temperatures won't get below 90 degrees so that will make walking slightly uncomfortable. I'm not looking forward to the rest of the summer when we will be trapped inside of our house because its too hot to even go outside :(

Reading the paper

So I was reading or attempting to read the paper today and I sit on the floor with Dom in between my legs so he can work on his back muscles/head control and he lunges forward towards the paper. He then decided to pick it up and crinkle every page. It was soooo cute. He was having a blast. Wish I could have gotten a picture of it! At least I know for future reference paper can keep him occupied for a while :)

Messy eater

Well we've begun to introduce cereal once a day to Dominik. As you can tell from the picture, I think more gets on his face than in his tummy. Needless to say, mealtime is always an experience!

We also just returned from a trip to Nebraska. We had a great time, as did everyone else because they got to meet Dominik! While we were there Dominik had a little bit of a bug, but he was a trooper and pulled through. When we got back home though, Bruce came down with an upper respiratory infection and probably strep (the culture came back negative, but he had all the symptoms). He was home from work for two days. So knock on wood that I won't be the next one to take a hit. I'm not sure this mommy could take it!

Slacker

So I admit it, I've thought about writing, but other things just seem to fill my time. So as I sit here at 4:55 am, I don't have anything better to do, althought Joy of Painting is on and Bob Ross is awesome. ( Its a winter scene with a sunrise, in case anyone cares)
Ok, back to life. I've been so busy and officially am a stay at home mom now. Partially because I want to and partially because I have to. Bruce got the opportunity to run a job near Yuma, AZ (if you don't know where it is, just look on a map for where Arizona, California, and Mexico touch). I wouldn't say that I'm thrilled that we will temporarily be moving, but its a new adventure and I'm so proud of Bruce. This is a big step in his career. We aren't sure when we will be going, but it'll probably be in the next couple of months.
Dom is a busy little guy! He is growing like crazy! He was 13 lbs, 14 oz and 24.25 inches at his last check-up. Pretty sure he's a giant. Haha. We spend our days cuddling, going for walks, playing on his play mat, sitting in the bumbo, and reading stories. Grandma Applegate got him this great collection of Children's stories for Christmas, so that is what we are working on reading now. He has almost outgrown his 0-3 month clothes and we've begun digging into the pile of 3-6 month. My goal is to just get him to wear everything at least once so I feel less guilty about it hanging in the closet. Dominik has been smiling up a storm lately, he usually starts smiling when he's getting his diaper changed--must know that something good is happening. He also is starting to babble. Its quite funny, especially when I put him on his playmat and I go run do something in the kitchen quick and I hear him get all excited. He can keep himself occupied for quite a while. His favorite thing to do with dad, well anyone for that matter, but I'll credit Bruce for starting this madness, is standing. If you pick him up, his legs will go stick straight and he will stand (with support of course) for a good 10 min. And during this time he'll be laughing and bobbling that gigantic head of his!
We've also had our slew of visitors since he's been here. Single G (my mom) has been out twice. Double G (my grandma) has been out as well. My sisters came for a visit in early January and my friends Andrea and Allison were just here. Bruce's parents will be here at the end of March and I'm pretty sure my parents are planning a trip for sometime in April.
Well that is all my brain can handle right now. I'll work on getting better at updating I promise!
