lub dub, lub dub

For those of you that don't know, that is the sound your heart makes when it beats. Thank you anatomy class. Iwas able to hear Baby Applegate's heart beat at my Dr. appt on Thursday afternoon. I must admit it was pretty cool. It's kinda weird to think that I have something growing inside of me especially when there really isn't anything on the outside to look at. OH well, soon enough the belly will come and I will probably hate it. At the appt. I was able to record the heartbeat and bring it home so Bruce could hear it. He thought it was pretty cool. Especially since Dr. Fernandez said that we have a little "show-off" since it was so easy to find the heartbeat. She said she usually has to poke and prod to find it on people. Not I said the fly. I've got a super star! Bruce was like now tell me exactly everything that the Dr. said. I want to hear how awesome my kid is. Haha. Well he or she is pretty awesome considering it is coming from Bruce and me, and I'll just leave it at that! :P We are headed to the Kiewit Safety BBQ today. Not exactly your ideal BBQ weather--super sunny, hot, 100 or so degrees (obviously they aren't thinking of the SAFETY of the 12 or so pregnant Kiewit wives that I know of that are pregnant.) Oh well, should be fun, raffles, food, and even a petting zoo. Bruce says he is going to take our kid to the petting zoo, I said good luck with that. I am staying away from stinky animals! I am also excited to see all of my Kiewit wives! It seems like it's been forever since I've seen most of them (well January District meeting WAS a long time ago!) I can't wait to talk pregnancy with all of them, because it seems like almost everyone was thinking the same way we were: "BABIES ARE FINE IN 2009!" haha.

Staying ahead of the game....

Well, I've broken down and bought some maternity clothes! I don't feel like I am starting to show yet, but some of my work pants are beginning to get tighter, big problem when you have to dress up every day! So off Bruce and I went on Sunday. We had quite the excursion. Stop at Victoria's Secret for panties--10 for $25! Next stop the Sprint Store to get me a new phone and cancel Bruce's line. We splurged a bit and I got a blackberry! Very exciting, so yes, for all of those who have hesitated to text me before since we were living in the dark ages, I now have the ability to text without being charged!! I really thought this day would never come....haha. After the 1 hour in the Sprint Store, we headed off to Old Navy. Got me a cute flowy top, and two fun short flowy cotton dresses--much needed for AZ! Bruce got a 3 new shirts and 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of khakis. After Old Navy, we went to JCPenney's. Bruce got hooked up again with 3 nice pairs of slacks (he's getting important these days) and I got a maternity black pencil skirt, maternity black dressy bermudas, maternity khaki pants, and maternity denim bermudas. I fugre this should get me started so when the day comes when I am standing in my closet, I will actually have an outfit or two to wear to work! Memorial Day weekend was nice and relaxing as always. But coming to work today was a b*tch! Oh well. And congrats to my good friend Kellie and Brent! They got engaged yesterday :) The 6 pack is now almost officially a 10 pack!

It's 3 am I must be lonely.....

WHY WHY WHY can’t I sleep through the night anymore? I’ve come to the conclusion that I won’t get a full night’s rest again until I’m 40 or something! Now I know that being pregnant makes you pee a lot, but I just thought that was when you were bigger. Well, not the case. I wake up 1-2 times per night because I have to go to the bathroom! I’ve actually contemplated buying DEPENDS! (Well actually I haven’t, that would just be gross, but it might work)
I’ve tried not drinking anything after dinner because it might make me pee, this only leaves me extremely parched at around 8-ish, so I take a SIP, yes a SIP of water. BAM! It’s 3 in the morning and I have to pee! WTF? Come on now, is this necessary? Just let me sleep!
So I’ve officially given up, given up on not drinking before bed. I’ve come to love that little glow on my clock that reads 3 am. It’s my friend.

Hopes and dreams....

Bruce and I are really hoping for the best child ever, I mean, what more could we ask for????

Ultrasound!!!!!

I went for my first ultrasound today. I was prepared for either the external or the internal ultrasound. One of my friends had the internal and she was NOT prepared for it. Heck, I didn't even know that they did that! Well, needless to say, I lucked out. I got the external :) Bruce unfortunately wasn't able to go with me due to his work schedule, but I was a BIG girl, and survived!
I went into the room, and she turned off the lights, I immediately wanted to take a nappy. She put some gel on my tummy that heated up really fast, it was kinda crazy. And the second she put the little sensor thingy on my stomach, I could see it! A real live baby! It was very exciting, and it even kinda looked like a baby too! She went through and made sure everything was there and in the right place and I am good to go!
I am actually measuring at 9 weeks 4 days, which is about 5 days ahead of what we planned, so as long as "Apple" seed is healthy, I don't care when he/she comes out! Baby Applegate measured in at just over an inch (from head to butt). And has a heart beat of 185bpm (Bruce thinks our baby has ADD and will wear me out, I'm blaming this trait on him!) The head also looks really big. I know the body is still not to it's correct proportions yet, but it still worries me that it will have a "Lucas" head--we all know what that is! haha.
Here are some pictures (sorry they are blurry, we don't have a scanner, so I took the pics from my blackberrry and uploaded them---Thanks for the advice Michaela!)

Eh....what's up doc?

So I've realized that I didnt' tell you about my first doctor's appt from last week! It was pretty boring, just met with the nurse and got some blood work done. She also gave me a HUGE goody bag of books, magazines, and pamphlets! Yay for fre information!!
I got the results of my blood tests back, and here it is:
1. definitely pregnant
2. I am NOT a carrier for cystic fibrosis (yay)
3. My blood is O-, so I have to get the Rhogam shot towards the end of my pregnancy
4. I'm slightly anemic, so I have to take 325mg of iron twice a day, pretty soon I'm gonna need a pill organizer! haha.
I had my first meeting with Dr. Fernandez today, she is really nice, and I am glad I chose her as a Dr. It was just a normal "womanly" check up. I have an enlarged uterus, so once again definitely pregnant. I also got more blood drawn to test my iron levels again. Hopefully they've gone up :) And I'm officially 8 weeks today!
I also have my first ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday May 5th! Ole! haha. Hopefully Bruce will be able to make it. If not, they actually burn it to a dvd for you, so I should be able to post it here! My next appt. is scheduled for May 28th. We'll see how month 3 goes! yay!
Also, I've subscribed to babycenter.com, and you get weekly emails about your baby. Today's email says the baby is now the size of a kidney bean. Gross, I don't even like kidney beans! Grow baby grow!
And last week it was the size of a blueberry, yum!
