MOMS Club

So I did it!  I joined a MOMS Club here in CA.  I officially paid my dues, and am excited to get to know a few other ladies and their kiddos so I can have some other adult interaction besides Bruce :) haha.  We went and did some crafts today and the president's house and it was just nice to sit and chat.  I miss all of my friends and think that they should all come visit REAL soon!!

Dominik and Bruce, changing partners
This past Saturday we attended The Great Cloth Diaper Change in Anaheim, CA.  Ever since we have switched to cloth diapers I have always told people how easy it is.  I know it's not for everyone so I definitely don't push anything, but if people are interested, I will talk about it, and Bruce will too as he loves how much moolah we save!

Anyways, the Great Cloth Diaper Change was an attempt to break the Guinness World Record of most cloth diapers changed simultaneously.  The final numbers aren't in yet, but I'm pretty sure we broke it!  How cool is that?  We got to participate in something very cool and good for the environment!

Shawna and Brooklyn, changing partners
The site that sponsored the event was Rosie Posie Baby.  It is a cloth diaper and natural accessory store in Anaheim.  There were 31 participants I believe, and the Applegates were the only family to have TWO participants.  That makes us pretty special if you ask me :)  So we all filed into a room where the floor had been blocked off into 2 feet by 3 feet rectangles for each child and their respective changer.  We counted down the seconds until 9:30 am, we held up our babies for a before picture, and then on "Go" we went a changin'!  After we were finished we held up the kiddos again for an after picture to show that we had changed them.  It was fun to see all of these families participating and of course check out what brands of diapers they used too :)

I'm sure we will participate again next year, but Dominik will be completely out of diapers by then, so we will just have Brooklyn participating.

Brooklyn is 7 months!

Brooklyn turned 7 months yesterday.  On a side note, my parents' wedding anniversary was also yesterday!  34 years!!!  And another side note...Happy Earth Day yesterday :)

So back to Brooklyn.  She is a mover and a shaker!  She began pulling herself up onto things this month.  She has had a few bruises to the forehead due to some falls from pulling up, but she's a tough cookie!  She loves to crawl towards the stereo and when we yell at her to stop, she stops, poses, and turns around and flashes a smile.  Then she continues on towards the stereo.

Brooklyn continues to chew, and chew, and chew on EVERYTHING.  Her favorite items are my hair and train tracks from Dominik's train table, oh and an occassional shoe.  Still no teeth, maybe this month.

As far as food goes, she eats solids 3 times a day, and gets breastfed and breakfast and bedtime.  She received a bottle of breastmilk at lunch and afternoon snack, but my personal and frozen supply of breastmilk has diminished and I sadly gave her her first taste of formula yesterday :( .  I have been working on stocking up my formula supply for free via samples and such, and I figure I have probably about a 2 month supply.  I did do better with breastfeeding her compared with Dominik (probably because I knew what I was doing!) So I am happy about that.  I personally also just want to have my body back and wanted her to be on a bottle before summer (whether breastmilk or formula).  She had a rough transition to bottle at first, but she survived!

She is completely fascinated by Dominik and loves to follow him around.  Occassionally they will have a conversation that consists of babble and laughter, it is too cute.  Brooklyn has started to get into Dominik's toys and if it is one of his favorites he gets really upset.  I told him he has to tell her "no thank you sister" and then can gently take the toy away.  He is pretty good at it and we've only had a few tears shed.

Brooklyn's naps have been good, but her nighttime schedule has been hit or miss the last couple of weeks.  The week after Easter was rough as she woke up at least one time a night.  The end result was either her sleeping with Bruce and I or me taking her out to the recliner to cuddle with me.  Either way, she, of course, fell asleep instantly.  I attribute the waking to either teething or a growth spurt.  We'll never know!  Also after she wakes up from her afternoon naps she is usually happy but if Dominik doesn't wake up from his right away, she gets bored and fussy with me until he wakes up.  She really loves being around him!

And as always, she is still smiley.

Melted Crayons!

Ok so this is the first time I've attempted this. I used up Dominiks broken crayons that he had already peeled the paper off of. I lined my mini muffin tin with paper liners as I've heard the wax will ruin pans. I baked at 250 degrees for 10 minutes. I think they turned out great! Hopefully Dominik likes them!

Dominik is 28 months!

We have been very busy the last month, despite the weekends of rain, we have been practicing riding Dominik's bike. He can ride around the block, but hasn't quite mastered the steering part. He is so focused when he rides. Its so cute.

Dominik also has a tatoo now. Haha. He received a couple of tatoos at an Easter egg hunt. He loved showing off "Miderman".

While Dominik's words are advancing we noticed he has trouble saying hard consonants. We aren't worried, I'm sure it will come along. It just sometimes makes it hard to understand him. And as I like to put it, I speak Dominik, but I'm not completely fluent. :). Since I'm around him all day I do understand him the best!

We are still continuing with our Letters/Numbers of the week. This week is F. We baked Funny Face cookies this week. That is what Dominik his holding in the picture.

Every time we walk in the door from outside he always has to announce that he's home. He says "I'm hoooome!" And then walks around the house for a few minutes saying it. It's really funny.

He also enjoys looking out for the garbage man. Today just happens to be trash day and every time he hears the truck he runs to a window to try and see him. Once the garbage has been picked up and the truck drives away, he says "Thank you mar-man" (garbage man). Lucky for him we have 3 different garbage containers so we see 3 different trucks come around.

He is also all about copying what he sees on tv like dances or singing. He is quite the character and keeps us laughing.

Potty training is going during the day. We have had a few accidents but most of them were because he couldn't get his underwear off in time. He still gets a diaper at nap and bedtime. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to let him wear undies at night!

Easter!

We had a pretty low key Easter as we didn't go anywhere or have family in town. The kids got to meet the Easter Bunny at a MOMS Club Easter party on Thursday. Dominik loved it! He was truly amazed. On Sunday we had an Easter egg hunt for Dominik and we also went on a bike ride/walk. He's getting so good at his bike! Here are a few pictures. Enjoy!

My running buddies!

This was the first time I hadn't put Brooklyn in her infant seat while in the jogging stroller. She loved it and so did Dominik. He kept leaning over to talk to her. So cute!
