Surprise Visitor

So last night Dominik and I were waiting for Bruce to get home from work. I heard his truck come in the driveway, so I went to go unlock the door and went back about my business in the kitchen. I hear him come through the door and I ask Dominik who is here. I turn around and Bruce says who else is here? My mom walks through the door!! What a great surprise! She flew in to surprise me for my baby shower on Saturday. I'm so looking forward to spending some time with her for a few days. And it actually worked out perfect because Bruce is out of town today and tomorrow!

31 weeks...are we there yet?

Well here is a pic of me at 31 weeks! These next 9 (or less) better fly by. I had an appointment today and everything was normal. My belly measured at 30 cm, which is good because it should match up to however many weeks you are. Heart rate was 148 bpm. Also good. Yay baby girl! Dominik tagged along to the appointment and was a very good boy. He got many compliments on what a cutie he is :). It's even cuter when I tell him to say thank you to a compliment and he actually says it! Next appointment is in 2 weeks.

Latest obsession

Dominik's latest obsession is hats, preferably backwards. Bruce wears hats all the time and Dom has taking a liking to them as well. If Bruce leaves a hat lying around, Dominik will find it and put it on. Or he'll bring it to Bruce because he knows that hats belong on dad's head. I took this picture yesterday as we walked to get the mail. He is wearing his Phoenix Coyotes St. Patrick's Day hat. He also wore the same hat to story time today at the library. He surprisingly kept it on the whole time! He's such a little stud :)

IE 9 problems

For any of my fellow blogger friends reading this that have downloaded Internet Explorer 9 and are having trouble publishing, I will share my "fix" with you. You need to go to the TOOLS drop down menu, select COMPATIBILITY MODE SETTINGS and add www.blogger.com to the list of pages. Everything should then work. I was getting completely frustrated with not being able to publish a post, luckily I found something that should work until the folks at blogger get it figured out :)

Dominik is 19 months!

So I'm finally getting better about updating this thing. Dominik turned 19 months on Monday, which mean in 2 months I will have 2 kids! AHHHHH!
And I would have published this sooner, but I downloaded Internet Explorer 9 and it isn't quite compatible with publishing on blogger.com yet. Grrrr... and it took me 3 days to figure out how to fix it!
We have been busy fine tuning our identification of body parts. He knows all of the actions to "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes", which I think is pretty impressive. He also still loves "The itsy bitsy spider", and "The wheels on the bus." We sing these songs every week at Story Time, so he is quite familiar with them.
His favorite foods still include ice cream and popsicles. Hey, it's been hot, I'm allowing it :) He loves his fruit, but isn't too sure of vegetables sometimes. He will always try something once, but if he doesn't like it, he'll spit it out 2 seconds after he puts it in his mouth, and then hand it to you. Pretty appetizing, huh?
Activities that we are busy with right now are Story Time once a week at the library and on Saturday we begin a 4 week gymnastics session. At Story Time, we read books, sing songs, and play with other kids. He is very good at sharing and cleaning up the toys. The best part about Story Time is that he gets to bring home a new coloring sheet every week. We now have rotating art work on the fridge. It's fun. We are totally looking forward to gymnastics and he is going to look so cute doing all of the activities. I just checked the registration today and there are 4 kids signed up. A small group, but it will be fun! He's already on the verge of doing somersaults, and last week I caught him walking across the side of the bath tub like a balance beam. He is a little monkey! And speaking of monkey, the little man figured out how to climb up on the barstools! He's only done it twice, but now it's just another thing I have to keep my eye out for.
New words that are easily identified by an adult are "dat" which is used for birds and airplanes in the sky, "whoa", and "wow." He uses both whoa and wow in the correct context, so it's pretty funny if you are watching him do something and he startles himself and says "whoa". I'm sure he's saying more, but those are just easily recognized.
One item that I do have to share is that the other night Dominik apparently came into our room in the middle of the night and brought us one of his pillows. He laid it on Bruce's side of the bed. We didn't hear him or anything, and amazingly enough he returned to his bed without us knowing. This kinda freaked me out, so we will soon be investing in a baby gate to put in his doorway at night. I just don't want him wandering the house at night, especially when he gets a little taller and can reach the locks! Thank goodness we have an alarm system that would trigger if he were to get out!
Well that's about it for now, just trying to stay cool, and as always, praying for just a little bit of rain!

Haboob

According to Wikipedia-an intense sandstorm commonly observed in arid regions of the world. Well, we experienced a huge one last night. The pic below I stole from the azcentral.com, I wasn't able to get any as it was too dark by the time it hit our house.

We heard the winds pick up and I went to go peek outside. This was around 8:15 pm. Sure enough, the wind had blown over a couple of our patio chairs (and not just weenie little chairs, we have big sturdy, bar height chairs) and was now attacking Dominik's pool. I told Bruce we should go out and secure everything, so we did. Dominik watched from the window. We could barely see anything! When we came back in, I had to wash my face and mouth out because it was fully of dust and dirt. GROSS.
So we felt better with everything secured. We sat down to finish watching Master Chef (our new summer tv addiction). We were just about to get up to put Dominik to bed and BOOM, 8:45 pm, the power goes out. Fab-u-lous. Well, we lit some candles, got the flashlights and put Dominik to bed. We were slightly concerned about having no air conditioning, but figured we'd wait a bit before completely freaking out. Bruce went outside to see if the whole block was dark, and it was, except for a few neighbors running around with flashlights. So there wasn't anything we could really do, so we decided it was bed time. Not 2 seconds before I blew out the candle in our room, did I hear little Dominik feet running to our room. He wasn't liking all the howling wind. So we all cuddled/sweated as a family. FINALLY, at 10:02 pm the power came back on! Halleluia! Dom had fallen soundly asleep, so we carried him back to bed, and then went to reset all the clocks and make sure everything that needed to be on turned back on, i.e. fridges, a/c, security system. We were good, so then it was finally bedtime! Whew, I was just glad to have a/c back!

Trucks!

This is Dominik's favorite book right now. It is a slide and find truck book that he just can't get enough of! We will seriously read it multiple times per day. I've even had to hide it a few times because some of the "slides" stick and he gets really upset when he can't open them. So upset, that he'll grab your fingers and make you open them! At one time Dominik even had 4 of these books! He had one before he was born, received 2 on his birthday, and 1 at Christmas. It really is a great book teaching him hand/eye coordination, and matching skills. That's all, just wanted to share :)
